A playful 7-day programme for children aged 1–3, designed to help parents support the foundations of early communication, speech and language through everyday interaction.

The first three years of a child’s life are filled with extraordinary changes. Long before their first clear words appear, children are already learning how communication works. They watch faces, follow voices, point towards interesting things, copy sounds and movements, use gestures to express what they want and gradually begin to understand that sounds and words can carry meaning.

WobblyWords Mini has been created to help parents recognise, encourage and build on these important early communication skills through simple activities that fit naturally into everyday family life.

Over seven days, you and your child will explore a different area of early communication each day. Rather than sitting your child down for formal lessons or expecting them to repeat words on demand, the programme shows you how ordinary moments can become valuable opportunities for communication and language development.

Playing on the floor, choosing a snack, looking at animals, getting dressed, having a bath, reading a favourite book or simply noticing something interesting during a walk can all provide opportunities for your child to listen, understand, respond and communicate. WobblyWords Mini helps you recognise those moments and make more of them.

What will you explore during the 7 days?

The programme begins by looking at communication before words and the many ways young children already express themselves through eye contact, gestures, pointing, sounds, facial expressions and actions. You will learn why recognising and responding to these early attempts at communication matters.

We then explore shared attention and how following something your child is already interested in can create natural opportunities to introduce useful words and encourage interaction.

You will discover the importance of imitation, including why copying your child can be just as valuable as encouraging them to copy you. Simple movements, playful sounds, animal noises and everyday actions can all become part of enjoyable two-way communication.

Another day focuses on repetition and why young children often want the same song, book, word or game again and again. You will see how familiar patterns help children anticipate what comes next and gradually strengthen their understanding of language.

We also explore simple choices and how offering two meaningful options can encourage your child to communicate intentionally. A look, a point, a gesture, a sound or a word can all become successful ways of expressing a decision.

Later in the programme, we bring language into everyday routines, showing how mealtimes, dressing, washing hands, bath time, tidying toys and preparing for bed can naturally support vocabulary and understanding without creating additional “learning time”.

On the final day, everything comes together. You will see how shared attention, listening, imitation, repetition, choices, vocabulary and turn-taking can become part of ordinary interaction with your child long after the seven-day programme has finished.

No special equipment. No complicated exercises.

WobblyWords Mini is designed for real family life.

You do not need specialist toys, flashcards, worksheets or expensive learning materials. You do not need to turn your home into a classroom, and you certainly do not need to spend hours every day practising.

Most activities use things you already have around you and can be incorporated into moments that are already part of your day.

Each day explains what you are supporting, why it matters and how you can encourage it through play and everyday interaction. You will also receive a practical activity to try with your child and simple ideas you can continue using throughout the day.

Designed for different stages between 1 and 3

There can be an enormous difference between the communication of a one-year-old and that of a child approaching their third birthday. WobblyWords Mini does not expect every child to respond in the same way.

A younger child may communicate mainly through looking, reaching, pointing, gestures and sounds. Another may be experimenting with their first recognisable words. An older toddler may already be combining words and beginning to use short sentences.

The activities are designed so that parents can adapt them naturally to their child’s current stage. The focus is not on comparing children or reaching a particular number of words by the end of seven days. It is about creating more opportunities for meaningful communication from wherever your child is starting.

Created for parents, with professional input

WobblyWords Mini has been developed as a practical home programme for parents and carers and reviewed by a qualified Speech and Language Therapist.

The aim is to make useful principles of early communication development accessible to families in a simple, enjoyable and realistic way.

The programme does not replace individual assessment, diagnosis or therapy. If you have concerns about your child’s speech, language, hearing, understanding or communication development, appropriate professional advice should always be sought.

How does WobblyWords Mini work?

Joining is completely free. Once registered, you will receive one WobblyWords Mini adventure by email each day for seven days.

Every day introduces a new idea, explains it in straightforward language and gives you practical ways to use it with your child. Each day builds naturally on the previous one, gradually creating a collection of techniques that can remain part of your everyday interactions after the programme has ended.

There are no tests, scores or expectations for your child to “perform”. You simply play, talk, listen, observe and discover new ways to support communication together.
