Between the ages of three and six, children’s communication can develop at an astonishing pace. Simple sentences gradually become longer and more detailed. Vocabulary expands rapidly. Children begin to explain what happened, describe what they are thinking, ask increasingly complicated questions, invent imaginary worlds and tell stories that occasionally take so many unexpected turns that even they forget where they started.
WobblyWords Junior has been created to help parents make the most of this exciting stage of development through simple, enjoyable activities that fit naturally into everyday family life.
Over seven days, you and your child will explore a different area of communication and language each day. Rather than turning language development into formal lessons, worksheets or constant questioning, the programme shows you how ordinary conversations, imaginative games, books, rhymes, discoveries and shared experiences can provide valuable opportunities for children to express themselves.
A conversation at breakfast, a strange-looking cloud, an imaginary dinosaur hiding underneath the sofa, a favourite picture book or a question about why puddles disappear can all become starting points for language development. WobblyWords Junior helps you recognise these opportunities and use them to encourage your child to listen, think, describe, explain, imagine and tell you more.
What will you explore during the 7 days?
The programme begins with real conversation and the difference between simply talking to a child and genuinely talking with them. You will discover how small changes in everyday conversations can give your child more opportunities to express their own thoughts, develop sentences and become increasingly confident about sharing their ideas.
We then explore shared attention and listening. Successful communication is not only about speaking. Children are also learning how to listen to another person, stay with a topic, take turns and recognise that conversation is something created together.
You will discover the enormous potential of imaginative play for language development. A cardboard box can become a spaceship, a teddy can visit the doctor and a toy dinosaur can suddenly require an emergency trip to the supermarket. Through pretend play, children can experiment with new vocabulary, longer sentences, dialogue, emotions, problem-solving and the beginnings of storytelling.
Another day focuses on rhythm, rhyme and sound. Through familiar British nursery rhymes, playful words, clapping, syllables and silly sound games, children are encouraged to listen more closely to the patterns within spoken language. They can discover that words can rhyme, contain different beats and sometimes sound funny simply because of the way they are put together.
We then look at questions that encourage children to talk. Instead of relying on questions that produce a simple “yes”, “no” or one-word answer, you will discover ways to invite descriptions, explanations, predictions and opinions. Even the famously unsuccessful “What did you do today?” can be transformed into conversations children actually want to continue.
Later in the programme, we explore curiosity and discovery. Children between three and six are natural investigators. Their endless “why?”, “how?” and “what happens if?” questions can become wonderful opportunities to develop descriptive vocabulary, reasoning, comparison, prediction and increasingly complex language.
On the final day, everything comes together through storytelling. Your child will have opportunities to organise ideas, connect events, remember experiences and create imaginary adventures. Stories help children move beyond describing what they can see and begin using language to talk about what happened before, what might happen next and what exists entirely within their imagination.

You do not need specialist equipment, expensive educational toys or piles of printed worksheets. You do not need to sit your child at a table and announce that it is time to practise language.
Most activities use conversations, toys, books, household objects and experiences you already have around you. They can happen while playing, travelling, walking outside, getting ready for nursery or school, eating together or relaxing before bedtime.
Each day explains what you are supporting, why it matters and how you can encourage it naturally. You will also receive a practical activity to try together and ideas for bringing the same communication skill into ordinary situations throughout the day.
The aim is not to make family life feel like a classroom. It is to help parents recognise just how many opportunities for language development are already hidden inside it.
Designed for different stages between 3 and 6
There can be a considerable difference between the communication skills of a child who has recently turned three and those of a child approaching their sixth birthday. WobblyWords Junior does not expect every child to communicate at the same level or complete activities in exactly the same way.
A younger child may answer questions using relatively short sentences, create very simple imaginary stories or need support to explain what happened. Another child may already be able to describe experiences in detail, invent elaborate stories, explain their reasoning and hold surprisingly sophisticated conversations.
The activities are designed to grow naturally with your child.
A three-year-old might tell you, “Dog running.” You can respond naturally with, “Yes, the dog is running really fast.” An older child might explain where they think the dog is going, why it is running and what they imagine will happen when it gets there.
The same activity can therefore provide different opportunities depending on your child’s current stage.
There are no scores and no competition. The purpose is not to compare your child with somebody else’s. It is to create enjoyable opportunities for them to develop from wherever they are now.

There is no homework to submit and nothing your child needs to pass.
You simply talk, listen, play, imagine, investigate and tell stories together.
Some activities may last ten minutes. Others may begin as a thirty-second conversation and unexpectedly continue because your child has something they desperately want to explain. Both can be valuable.
By the end of the seven days, you will have a collection of practical ideas that can continue to be used long after the final email has arrived.
